The tiles installed on the fixed bracket of crankshaft and cylinder block, which serve as bearings and lubrication, are usually called crankshaft main bearings. They are generally divided into two types: bearing shell and flanging bearing shell. The flanging bearing shell not only supports and lubricates the crankshaft, but also plays a role in axial positioning of it.
The function of crankshaft bearing is to cool the bearings by supplying oil to bearing shell, taking away the heat generated during the operation, and to form a stable oil film with sufficient bearing capacity between bearing shell and journal to ensure liquid lubrication.
During engine operation, the crankshaft will be axially moving due to the axial thrust exerted on crankshaft by stepping on the clutch. However, excessive axial movement will affect the normal operation of piston and connecting rod group and disrupt the correct timing of gas distribution and diesel engine fuel injection. Therefore, in order to ensure the correct axial positioning of crankshaft, it is necessary to install thrust bearings, which can only be installed in one place to ensure that the crankshaft can freely extend when heated.
