The function of the exhaust manifold mainly has two aspects. One is to exhaust the waste gas from the diesel engine cylinder, and the other is to prevent mutual interference and backflow of waste gas from the cylinder. The Cummins diesel engine uses an "arterial" exhaust manifold with a multi-stage turbocharged inlet pipe section (exhaust manifold outlet).
The working order of each cylinder of the 6BT diesel engine is 1-5-3-6-2-4. Connect the exhaust ducts of cylinders 1, 2 and 3 with those of cylinders 4, 5 and 6 to the two exhaust manifolds respectively, and then lead them to the two air inlets on turbine housing. In this way, the exhaust of each cylinder does not interfere with each other, which can fully utilize the pulse energy of the waste gas and prevent the exhaust pressure wave of one cylinder from flowing back to another that is sucking gas in.
