The cylinder head is installed on top of the cylinder block, sealing the cylinder from above and forming the combustion chamber. It's also equipped with intake and exhaust valve seats, valve guide holes for the installation of intake and exhaust valves and channels. The cylinder head of gasoline engine is machined with holes for installing spark plugs, while that of diesel engine with holes for installing fuel injectors.
The cylinder head is generally made of gray cast iron or alloy cast iron, and aluminum alloy has good thermal conductivity, which is beneficial for improving compression ratio. The cylinder head is an integral part of the combustion chamber. There is a significant difference in the parts that make up the combustion chamber on the cylinder head of gasoline and diesel engines according to the different combustion methods between them.
